“The business of hope for youth

Elpis Enterprises (Elpis is Greek for Hope) is a Saint Paul-based 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that provides job training, work experience and job placement for homeless or precariously-housed young people ages 16-23. Through several social enterprises, youth build skills, build experience and build relationships in the community. Young people develop as individuals and potential employees by working in real enterprises gaining the skills, knowledge, and confidence necessary to overcome homelessness and become contributing members of our community.”

Shirt design by Caroline and Evelyn. Many thanks to ALL

students who submitted designs this year!

Here’s how Elpis made it:

We read a book last week called

New Year at the Pier: A Rosh Hashanah Story

In the book (and in my Jewish Tradition) we “throw away our mistakes” at the beginning of the New Year to cleanse our hearts and souls. That way your heart feels like “an empty closet” after you have discarded all the old broken toys that you have gotten rid of, “wide and open.” If you’d like to learn more about this tradition first hand, you may join me at Crosby Farm on Sunday:

Community Tashlich Experience to be held at Crosby Farm Park 2595 Crosby Farm Rd, St Paul MN 55116

Tashlich will take us from Rosh HaShanah to Yom Kippur with
dance, storytelling, and reflection on the past year as we cast our regrets away into the water.

Religious School Families: this is our first day of school (in lieu of meeting at Shir Tikvah!) followed by a picnic lunch. Please bring lunch for you and your party.
