Libraries Are Some of My Best Friends

Here’s why:

1.

 2.

When I was in high school , someone gave me a copy of the Autobiography of Malcolm X. It changed my life on many ways… Most of all, I admire Malcolm’s voracious quest for the truth and his unending pursuit of self change and transformation.
3.

‘Nuff Said.

4.

This ABC BOOK is more than an easy reader. I love alpha beta books because they are often powerful compendiums of arcane knowledge hiding in disguise.

5.

Many libraries such as Pierre Botineau and Nokomis and Roosevelt ( above ) have science ( X rays) and other hands on activities for children to explore.

The Story (From Leah Polacco)

“When we passed Mr. Kodinski’s hat shop, Miss Eula would always stop and look in the window at the wonderful hats. Then she’d sigh and we’d walk on.”
Determined to buy their “gramma” the hat of her dreams in time for Easter, Patricia Polacco and childhood neighbors, Stewart and Winston set out to raise the money. Although “he’s such a strange old man,” they approach Kodinski to see about working odd jobs in exchange for the Easter bonnet, however, before they can inquire, he accuses the children of throwing eggs at his shop. With the help of Patricia’s mother, the three decorate “Pysanky” eggs, in an attempt to prove their innocence. The old man is so impressed that he allows the children to sell their eggs inside his shop, and although they raise enough money to purchase Miss Eula her hat, they end up not having to after all!
Chicken Sunday is a heartwarming tale of friendship, holiday magic, and delicious fried chicken dinners.

After being initiated into a neighbor’s family by a solemn backyard ceremony, a young Russian American girl and her African American brothers’ determine to buy their gramma Eula a beautiful Easter hat. But their good intentions are misunderstood, until they discover just the right way to pay for the hat that Eula’s had her eye on. A loving family story woven from the author’s childhood.

Magic

Sarah Kay says, ” I write poem to figure thing out.”

Kay Sarah Sera

“I am young enough to know about Magic Cats” and Fairies. Are you?

Poet, Sarah Kay, reading one of her poems:

Here’s another of her poems, that actually became a short picture book called

B

“If I should have a daughter…”

(Teachers, Check out “Ten Things I Know to Be True”

Why do you think she decided to call it that? Do you think she would say the same things to her son? Why or why not?
What verse will you add to the cosmic story ?

What will be YOUR gift to this wide wise world?
